BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – A serious incident has unfolded involving Cameron Joseph Grady, a 17-year-old running back from Sotomayor High School, who recently committed to play football at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). Grady was arrested following a robbery that took place at a house party in west Bexar County, as detailed in a police affidavit.

Grady is facing two counts of aggravated robbery, which is classified as a first-degree felony. According to the affidavit, the robbery incident occurred on June 28, just ten days after he publicly announced his commitment to UTSA.

The report indicates that Grady and another suspect, identified only as “Reuben,” forcibly removed chains from the necks of two victims during the party held in the 2000 block of Creek Knoll. Following the incident, the victims pursued Grady and Reuben in an attempt to retrieve their stolen property.

As the victims followed the suspects, “Reuben” brandished a firearm and threatened one of the victims, while Grady physically assaulted the second victim, causing a black eye. Both victims later recognized Grady from his participation in high school football and were able to identify him through a photo lineup provided by investigators.

Following his arrest on June 8, Grady was booked into the Bexar County Adult Detention Center. He was released the following day after posting a $100,000 bond. As he enters his senior year at Sotomayor High School, this incident raises significant concerns about the behaviors and decisions of young athletes, especially those in the public eye.

This situation serves as a reminder of the challenges that young people face and the importance of making wise choices. It is crucial for students, especially athletes, to understand the potential consequences of their actions and how they can impact their futures. As Grady navigates this crucial time in his life, it will be important to observe how he and his community respond to this challenging situation.

First and foremost, I want to thank God, my family, coaches, and everyone who has supported me throughout this journey. After much thought and prayer, I am blessed and excited to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at UTSA.
