GUADALUPE COUNTY, Texas – A recent incident in Guadalupe County has raised significant concerns regarding safety and law enforcement. A deputy from the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office was injured during a confrontation with a landlord, James Waugh, who reportedly broke into a tenant’s home while she was away.
The situation unfolded when deputies were called to the 700 block of Ridge Road following reports of the break-in. Upon arriving, the deputy spotted Waugh leaving the residence but he quickly fled back inside the home. This is where the encounter took a violent turn.
As the deputy attempted to apprehend Waugh, a woman named Toya Robinson, 55, intervened. In a shocking escalation, she attacked the deputy, complicating the situation further. During the struggle, Waugh attempted to seize the deputy’s Taser, but was unsuccessful.
Things became even more dangerous when Robinson reportedly used the radio cord of the deputy to choke him. Fortunately, the deputy managed to escape this dire situation with only minor injuries, although he was hospitalized for treatment.
After the struggle, Waugh managed to flee the scene. Meanwhile, Robinson was arrested and is facing serious charges, including aggravated assault on a public servant and interference with public duties.
Law enforcement officers from the New Braunfels Police Department joined the search for Waugh, utilizing K-9 units and drones to scour the area near the Guadalupe River. However, despite their efforts, Waugh remains at large.
The Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office has issued arrest warrants for Waugh on multiple counts. They are urging anyone who sees him or has information about his whereabouts to contact them at 830-379-1224 or call 911.
