EAGLE PASS, Texas – A serious incident has led to the arrest of two daycare employees after a toddler was left in a hot car for several hours. According to the Eagle Pass Police Department, the incident occurred when the child was left unattended in a daycare van.
The individuals involved, Jajaira Maria Hernandez, 33, and Samaria Denise Jimenez, 46, were taken into custody and booked into the Tom Bowles Detention Center on Friday, following an investigation that began in May 2026.

During this investigation, it was revealed that a 2-year-old child had been left in the vehicle for approximately four hours on a hot day, which could pose serious health risks. Authorities stress the importance of vigilance in ensuring the safety of children in daycare settings.
Hernandez faces multiple charges, including abandoning or endangering a child, which is classified as a state felony, and tampering with physical evidence, a third-degree felony. Her bond has been set at $50,000. Meanwhile, Jimenez is charged with tampering with physical evidence and failing to report a felony, a Class A misdemeanor, with her bond set at $40,000.
The Eagle Pass Police Department has indicated that details of the investigation will be forwarded to the state licensing agency for further review, which may lead to additional actions regarding the Eagle Pass Day Care Center. This is a crucial step in ensuring that such incidents do not recur and that the safety of children is prioritized.
The investigation received assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service, Texas Department of Public Safety, and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, highlighting the seriousness and collaborative effort involved in addressing this issue.
