SAN ANTONIO – Residents of an East Side neighborhood in San Antonio are expressing their deep concern following a tragic shooting incident that left one young man dead and five others injured late Saturday night.

The shooting occurred around 10:45 p.m. and has raised alarms about ongoing violence in the area. One local resident, who has lived in the community for about ten years, shared, “I’ve already lost four kids from this neighborhood.” Her frustration and fear were palpable as she expressed a desire to leave the area, stating, “I just want to get away from here, and I wish we didn’t have to be scared just to be at the park.”

Detectives from the San Antonio Police Department worked tirelessly into the early hours of Sunday, investigating the scene in the 1700 block of Lamar Street, near North Mittman Street. They remained on-site for more than 12 hours, gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses to piece together what led to this devastating event.

As of Sunday morning, the police had not yet released details about the cause of the shooting, and no arrests had been made. Rita Bethany, another neighbor, expressed her shock, saying, “I’ve never seen anything like that before in my whole life.”

In total, six individuals were shot during the incident, both inside and outside an apartment complex. Tragically, an 18-year-old man succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital. The other victims included a 12-year-old, a 5-year-old, a 41-year-old, and a 22-year-old, all of whom were reported to be in critical condition. A fifth victim’s age has not yet been disclosed.

As residents grapple with the aftermath of this violence, Rita Bethany voiced a sentiment shared by many in the community: “We should not live like this.” The need for safety and peace in their neighborhood is a pressing concern as they seek answers and support in the wake of this tragedy.
