NEW YORK – Aaron Judge, the captain of the New York Yankees, has received the green light to begin light workout activities as he recovers from a broken rib that has kept him sidelined since May 31. The three-time AL MVP expressed optimism about his return, stating, “Oh, I’ll be back this season. I don’t know why I wouldn’t be.”

Judge’s recovery took a positive turn after his latest scan on Tuesday, following which he was seen on the field engaging in stretching, jogging, and resistance band exercises. “Better news. Healing up,” Judge noted, indicating he was eager to progress and eventually return to swinging a bat.

Despite the encouraging signs, Judge acknowledged that it would take time before he could return to the lineup. “I think that’s going to be the ultimate test, is hitting,” he remarked, emphasizing the physical demands of batting compared to other forms of exercise. Further scans will determine when he can safely resume hitting and throwing.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone echoed Judge’s sentiments, emphasizing the need for a cautious approach to ensure the player is fully healed. “I think he understands what’s at stake and his obviously importance to this club and wanting to get back out there — but he’s got to be whole, too,” Boone explained.

Currently on the 60-day injured list, Judge has been an integral part of the Yankees’ lineup, boasting a .248 batting average with 17 home runs and 38 RBIs this season. His absence has been felt, as the Yankees have struggled offensively, posting a record of 28-27 since he was injured.

As the Yankees look to bolster their lineup, they have also been without key players such as Giancarlo Stanton and Cody Bellinger due to injuries. With the trade deadline recently passing, the Yankees acquired first baseman Luis García Jr. and outfielder Heliot Ramos to enhance their roster.

Judge’s determination to return is evident, as he noted the urgency of his situation with only 52 days left in the regular season. “I’ve got a broken rib, so you’re going to feel it. But it’s healing up,” he said, emphasizing the need to test his recovery as the season progresses.

As fans eagerly await his return, Judge remains focused on his rehabilitation, demonstrating a commitment to his team and a desire to contribute to their playoff aspirations.
