LONDON – Kate, the Princess of Wales, delighted tennis enthusiasts on Thursday by meeting fans who had formed the iconic Queue at Wimbledon. This annual tradition sees ardent supporters camp out overnight to secure tickets for the prestigious grass-court Grand Slam. The princess’s visit was a highlight, coinciding with a second-round match featuring British player Arthur Fery on one of the outer courts.

As the patron of the All England Club, Kate’s presence at Wimbledon carries significant meaning, especially following her announcement last year that her cancer was in remission. Her engagement with the public showcases her commitment to the sport and its community.

According to a statement from Kensington Palace, upon her arrival, Her Royal Highness took time to interact with attendees who had queued since early morning. She was accompanied by the AELTC’s honorary stewards, who play a vital role each year in managing The Queue and ensuring a warm welcome for guests arriving at the Championships.

Wimbledon is known for its tradition of offering a limited number of same-day tickets, prompting fans to line up and even camp out in Wimbledon Park the night before to secure their chance to watch the matches. This dedication reflects the deep-rooted passion for tennis among fans.

In addition to her interactions with fans, Kate also contributed her time at a Wimbledon ticket office, further emphasizing her hands-on approach during the event. She was scheduled to meet with children from Shine Camera Club, a local initiative that supports underprivileged youth, illustrating her commitment to community engagement.

Last year, Kate was present at Centre Court on consecutive days, where she had the honor of presenting the winners’ trophies to singles champions Iga Swiatek and Jannik Sinner. Her empathetic nature was also evident when she offered words of comfort to women’s runner-up Amanda Anisimova after a challenging defeat.

In 2024, while still on her road to recovery, Kate attended the men’s final, where she witnessed Carlos Alcaraz secure a victory over Novak Djokovic, marking another significant moment in her Wimbledon journey.

During her visit, Kate watched Arthur Fery compete against Finland’s Otto Virtanen on Court 18, seated beside Tim Henman, the former Wimbledon semifinalist and current All England Club board member, adding a touch of nostalgia to her experience.
