FORECAST HIGHLIGHTS

FORECAST

Today, San Antonio is expected to reach a high of 100°, marking a significant milestone as it is the first triple-digit day of the summer. Typically, this weather pattern emerges by the end of June, but this year, the area is experiencing it approximately a month later than usual due to recent rainfall, which has kept temperatures more moderate.

Despite the 100° forecast, the high humidity levels will exacerbate the discomfort, making it feel like 105° to 110°. Residents are reminded to take precautions, especially during peak heat hours from 1 PM to 7 PM.

Heat Advisories and Extreme Heat Warnings are currently in effect across most of Texas. While many locals are accustomed to the summer heat, it’s essential to stay hydrated and limit outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day.

In addition to the heat, there is a slight chance (20%) of a stray shower overnight, attributed to the approach of the weak Tropical Storm Bertha.

Tropical Storm Bertha has weakened as it nears the Louisiana coast, bringing mild rain and gusty winds to New Orleans. This storm is relatively gentle compared to the region’s history of severe hurricanes.

As Bertha moves west toward the Texas coast, it is projected to weaken further, with little to no noticeable impact on the Beaumont, Houston, or Galveston areas by Thursday. The storm is expected to dissipate completely by Friday morning.

In summary, Bertha poses no significant threats and is unlikely to interfere with travel plans, as it should be entirely dissipated by the weekend.

NUECES & FRIO RIVERS

In the wake of significant rainfall last week, the Nueces and Frio Rivers are still experiencing flooding. Nearly 500 billion gallons of water are currently being drained into Choke Canyon and Lake Corpus Christi, particularly affecting towns like Cotulla and Tilden. Residents in Cotulla can expect the Nueces River to remain at major flood stage through the weekend.

LOCAL LAKES & AQUIFERS

Recently, local lakes such as Canyon Lake and Medina Lake, along with the Edwards Aquifer, are experiencing their highest water levels in four years. As mentioned earlier, Choke Canyon and Lake Corpus Christi will eventually benefit from the floodwaters once the drainage process is complete. Ongoing updates will be provided as the situation develops.
