An Extreme Heat Warning is currently in effect until 7 p.m. Sunday for Caldwell, Fayette, Gonzales, and Lavaca counties, with highs potentially reaching up to 107° and heat indices soaring to 110°. Following that, a Heat Advisory will extend from 7 p.m. Sunday through 7 p.m. Wednesday, encompassing Bexar County, with temperatures expected to climb as high as 105°.
As the heat persists, residents are strongly advised to take precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses. Drinking plenty of fluids, seeking air-conditioned environments, and minimizing outdoor activities during peak heat hours are highly recommended.
Ongoing Heat Wave
The oppressive heat is not expected to dissipate anytime soon. A high-pressure system will maintain hot and dry conditions across South Central Texas through at least Wednesday, with temperatures remaining above the 100-degree mark. This August heat wave shows no signs of abating in San Antonio and its surrounding areas.
To mitigate the risks associated with extreme temperatures, it is crucial for individuals, especially those working outdoors, to take regular breaks in shaded or air-conditioned locations and to monitor for symptoms of heat exhaustion or heat stroke.
Possible Relief on the Horizon?
Looking ahead, there may be a slight chance for relief from the relentless heat as the upper-level ridge shifts toward Arizona by Thursday or Friday. This change could potentially bring isolated showers or thunderstorms; however, the likelihood of significant rainfall remains low, suggesting that any moisture will not provide a lasting respite from the heat.
