DIMMIT COUNTY, Texas – Tragedy struck in Dimmit County on Monday morning as a man lost his life in a single-vehicle crash. The incident, reported by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), highlights the dangers of driving and the importance of road safety.
Troopers were dispatched to the scene around 5:26 a.m. on U.S. Highway 83, specifically near Mile Marker 654, located approximately 18 miles south of Carrizo Springs and close to the small community of Catarina, Texas.
Upon arrival, law enforcement officials discovered the driver, later identified as 34-year-old Larry Antonio White, suffering from severe injuries. The vehicle, a 2023 white Freightliner truck-tractor, had overturned in the northbound lane, a scene that undoubtedly left a significant impact on first responders.
Emergency personnel quickly assessed White’s injuries and transported him to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, despite the efforts of medical staff, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. This incident serves as a somber reminder of the unpredictable nature of road travel.
Investigators from the DPS reported that White was traveling northbound on U.S. Highway 83 when he failed to negotiate a curve at a safe speed, leading to the vehicle’s overturning. The specifics of this crash are still under investigation, as officials work to piece together the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
This incident not only highlights the risks associated with driving but also underscores the need for drivers to remain vigilant, particularly in challenging road conditions. The DPS encourages all motorists to adhere to speed limits and exercise caution, especially on curves and bends.
