Chad Eberle, a 35-year-old man, was recently arrested at the International Bridge II in Piedras Negras, Mexico, which is just across the border from Eagle Pass, Texas. This arrest was reported by the Mexican newspaper La Razon.
Eberle is facing serious charges in Mexico, including femicide and homicide. Femicide is a specific crime that involves the killing of a woman based on her gender, and it is recognized as a serious offense in many Latin American countries, although it is not defined as such in the United States. According to the State Attorney General’s Office of Coahuila de Zaragoza, these charges stem from a tragic incident that occurred last month in Saltillo, Mexico.
Reports indicate that the incident involved an argument over Eberle allegedly not having permission to take his 3-year-old son. This argument escalated into a violent confrontation, resulting in the deaths of two women and a man. Additionally, the boy’s mother suffered serious injuries.
Following the incident, Eberle’s son has been placed in the custody of Coahuila’s child welfare agency to ensure his safety and well-being.
Interestingly, Eberle is a law enforcement officer, currently employed at the Santa Anna Police Department, as indicated by records from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE). His background includes previous roles at various law enforcement agencies, including a deputy constable position in Bexar County, as well as police work in Northside ISD and Somerset Police Department.
The police chief, Tucker, confirmed that he has reported Eberle’s arrest to TCOLE and is in contact with the consulate in Mexico regarding the situation. This case highlights the serious implications of domestic disputes and the legal complexities that can arise when they cross international borders.
