SAN ANTONIO – In a significant development, the trial for Ramon Preciado, a man accused of aiding his son in covering up a horrific crime, has been canceled, according to recent court records. The trial was initially set to commence on May 11, 2025, with jury selection scheduled to begin.
The reason behind the cancellation of the trial remains unclear, and as of Thursday afternoon, a new date has not been established. This case has garnered attention due to its grave nature involving the murder of a couple and their unborn child.
In March, a Bexar County jury found Christopher Preciado, Ramon’s son, guilty of capital murder in connection with the deaths of Savanah Soto, Matthew Guerra, and their unborn child. Consequently, he received a life sentence without the possibility of parole.
Background of the Case
Savanah Soto was due to be induced to deliver her child but did not attend her appointment on December 22, 2023. Reports indicate that Soto and Guerra were last in contact with family on December 21, prompting Soto’s family to report her missing shortly thereafter. A statewide CLEAR Alert was issued on Christmas Day, leading to a tragic discovery the following day.
On December 26, 2023, authorities found Soto and Guerra deceased in Guerra’s vehicle at an apartment complex in Leon Valley, Texas. This shocking event led to a swift investigation, culminating in the arrest of Christopher Preciado on January 3, 2024, on charges of capital murder.
Ramon Preciado was also arrested, facing charges of tampering with evidence and abuse of a human corpse. Additionally, Myrta Romanos, Christopher’s mother, was implicated and arrested for allegedly attempting to assist in covering up the crime.
It’s important to note that Soto and Guerra’s families did not have any prior relationship with the Preciados. The dispute that led to these tragic events reportedly stemmed from a drug deal gone wrong. According to police statements and an arrest affidavit, Christopher Preciado claimed that Guerra drew a gun on him, leading to the fatal confrontation.
In a further twist, Ramon Preciado was released from the Bexar County Adult Detention Center in February 2025 after a reduction in his bond. Meanwhile, Romanos was slated to go to trial in November 2025; however, after a request for a reset was denied, all charges against her were dismissed by prosecutors.
