SAN ANTONIO – On a recent Sunday evening, a serious incident unfolded on Marbach Road that led to a significant police response. San Antonio Police Chief Jesse Salame reported that the situation began when a suspect named Jacob Luna, 31, noticed he was being followed while driving in the 1700 block of Horal Street.

This wasn’t just any follower; it was an undercover SAPD unit. In a moment of panic, Luna brandished a gun out of his window and fired at the officers, who quickly returned fire. The exchange of gunfire escalated and ultimately moved to the intersection of Horal and Marbach.

As Luna attempted to escape, he caused several collisions on Horal Street before crashing into a tree next to a Burger King parking lot. The aftermath of the incident left debris scattered across the street and sidewalk, while the marks from Luna’s vehicle were still visible on the tree the following day.

Despite the crash, Luna’s attempt to flee continued. Police did not disclose the exact location of his arrest but noted that he collapsed near the crash site. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to a hospital in critical condition. Fortunately, reports indicate that he is expected to survive.

Witnesses described the scene as frightening, with Chief Salame confirming that several vehicles were caught in the crossfire. Thankfully, no bystanders were injured, although a nearby vehicle had its back window shot out.

The officers were following Luna to confirm his identity to serve a felony narcotics warrant. The shooting involved four experienced officers, each with eight to ten years of service, who have since been placed on administrative duty, a standard procedure in such cases.

Luna now faces serious charges, including two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a controlled substance, which carries significant legal penalties.

This incident is still under investigation, and authorities are working to piece together all the details surrounding this dramatic confrontation. As the situation evolves, it serves as a stark reminder of the dangers law enforcement officers face daily and the critical importance of public safety.
