SAN ANTONIO – In a troubling incident at a local nursing home, a certified nursing assistant has been arrested for allegedly using a debit card that belonged to a 79-year-old resident. The San Antonio Police Department took Destiny Lashell Houston, 36, into custody on various charges related to this incident.

What Happened?

Houston worked directly with the elderly victim at The Forum at Lincoln Heights nursing home, which is located in the 300 block of Nottingham Drive. The victim, who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease, had her financial matters overseen by her daughter since moving into the facility’s mental care unit.

Suspicious Activity

In August 2025, the victim’s daughter noticed “numerous purchases” made with her mother’s debit card over several days. One of these transactions was even made at a vending machine in the employee lounge of the nursing home. Concerned, the daughter checked her mother’s wallet and discovered that the debit cards were missing, prompting her to file a report with the police.

Investigative Findings

Authorities quickly got to work, reviewing surveillance footage from various stores where the debit card had been used. They identified Houston in the footage, which was then shown to her supervisors at the nursing home. During a police interview, Houston admitted to being the person in the videos but denied using the victim’s debit card, claiming instead that the card she used was a “gift card” she found on the floor at the facility.

Legal Consequences

Houston was arrested on charges that are classified as third-degree felonies and was released on bond just after 10 p.m. on the same day. She is expected to make her next court appearance on August 24.
