SAN ANTONIO – A tragic incident occurred on Sunday evening when a woman was struck and killed by a vehicle in a hit-and-run accident on the West Side of San Antonio. The victim has been identified as 71-year-old Yolanda Cano.
According to the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD), Yolanda was walking eastbound on El Paso Street, near the intersection with South San Jacinto Street, which is close to Lanier High School. It was reported that an unknown vehicle struck her as she was walking.
After the collision, the driver fled the scene without stopping to help Yolanda. Police were called just after 8 p.m. when someone spotted her lying in the middle of the street. Unfortunately, authorities pronounced Yolanda dead at the scene.
As of Monday morning, the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office was still determining the exact cause and manner of Yolanda’s death. However, police indicated that the driver will face serious charges, including a collision involving death, once they are apprehended.
The incident highlights the importance of road safety and the responsibility drivers have to stop and assist anyone injured in an accident. The SAPD is continuing to investigate this tragic event and is asking anyone with information to come forward.
