SCHERTZ, Texas – In a concerning incident that has shaken the local community, Schertz police are actively investigating an attempted kidnapping of a 9-year-old girl at a neighborhood park. The event took place on Saturday afternoon, prompting police to reach out to the public for assistance in gathering more information.

The attempted kidnapping was reported around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, although witnesses indicate it occurred between 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. at a park located in the Belmont Park subdivision. According to the police, the specific location of the incident was near Belmont Parkway and Hourless Oaks Lane.

A detective involved in the case reported that the young girl was simply walking through the park when an unknown man approached her and grabbed her by the arm. Thankfully, she was able to break free from his grasp, and the man fled the scene without uttering a word.

Residents of the area are understandably shaken by the news. Barbara Dolberry, who works nearby, expressed her frustration and concern for the safety of children in the neighborhood. “That’s bold. They’re bold, and hopefully they didn’t go somewhere else to try it somewhere else with some other kid,” she said. Dolberry, who has grown children, remains vigilant about the safety of her grandchildren and other kids in the area.

According to the girl, the attempted kidnapping left her visibly shaken, and she could only provide a vague description of her attacker. Police have stated that the suspect is believed to be between 30 and 40 years old, with dark hair, and was last seen wearing a blue top and jeans.

Dolberry emphasized the need for community awareness, saying, “I’m going to keep a lookout. I’m going to try; if I see this guy, I’ll call. I’ll call police.” Her proactive stance highlights the importance of community vigilance in ensuring the safety of children.

Schertz police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the attempted kidnapping or has information related to the incident to come forward and contact the Schertz Police Department. Community involvement is crucial in helping to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
