WILSON COUNTY, Texas – A former teacher from the Stockdale Independent School District, Peter Aaron Leach, has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for having an inappropriate relationship with a student. This serious case has raised concerns about student safety and the responsibilities of educators.
According to a news release from the 81st Judicial District Attorney, Audrey Gossett Louis, Leach was sentenced after pleading no contest to charges of improper relationship between an educator and a student, as well as indecency with a child by contact. Both of these offenses are classified as second-degree felonies.
Leach chose to waive his right to a jury trial and accepted a plea deal, which allowed him to face a maximum punishment of 15 years in prison. In addition to the charges he pleaded to, he also left the decision on his punishment for charges of child grooming and tampering with physical evidence up to the court. Each of these additional charges could have meant a sentence ranging from two to 10 years.
Ultimately, the court sentenced Leach to 13 years for the improper relationship and indecency charges, along with an additional 10 years for the charges related to child grooming and tampering with evidence. However, it is important to note that both sentences will run concurrently, meaning he will serve a total of 13 years.
