GUADALUPE COUNTY, Texas — A tragic motorcycle accident in Guadalupe County has led to a serious legal situation for a man from Seguin. Richard Wayne Klatt, 40, was charged with manslaughter following the deadly crash that occurred on March 31, 2023.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the accident happened just before 5 a.m. on Stagecoach Road, near Nickerson Farms Road. This is a quiet area where many locals enjoy riding their motorcycles, making the incident especially shocking.

As troopers investigated the scene, they found that Klatt was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle when he “failed to negotiate a curve,” resulting in him losing control. Both he and his passenger were thrown from the motorcycle during the crash.

Sadly, the passenger, 35-year-old Kaitlyn Marie Johns, was pronounced dead at the scene. This loss has been deeply felt in the community, highlighting the dangers that come with motorcycle riding.

Klatt, on the other hand, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital in San Antonio for treatment. After three weeks of investigation, DPS obtained an arrest warrant for him, leading to his arrest by Guadalupe County Constables on June 4.

He has since been booked into the Guadalupe County Adult Detention Center, facing a second-degree felony charge of manslaughter. A judge has set his bond at $250,000, and as of Wednesday afternoon, he remains in custody.

The DPS has confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, as they continue to gather more information about the accident. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with motorcycle riding and the importance of safety on the road.
