SAN ANTONIO – A tragic incident occurred in San Antonio, where a man has been charged with murder after allegedly stabbing his mother to death. This shocking event took place at an extended stay hotel on the West Side, raising concerns about family violence and mental health issues.
The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Joe Michael Capistran Jr., is facing serious charges. A judge in Bexar County has set his bond at $250,000, highlighting the severity of the situation.
On Saturday evening, around 9 p.m., San Antonio police responded to reports of a stabbing in the 7400 block of Culebra Road, which is close to Loop 410. When officers arrived, they found both Capistran Jr. and his mother, 62-year-old Nora Capistran, with multiple stab wounds.
According to the arrest affidavit, Nora Capistran had visible injuries, including “defensive wounds” on her wrist, indicating she may have tried to protect herself. A large kitchen knife was found next to her son, suggesting the weapon used in the attack.
Tragically, Nora Capistran was pronounced dead at the scene, having suffered multiple stab wounds to her head, wrist, and back. Witnesses reported hearing Capistran Jr. yelling “you stupid b****” before the violence erupted, indicating a possible argument had taken place prior to the attack.
After the stabbing, Capistran Jr. was seen leaving the hotel room with his mother before he allegedly stabbed himself in the throat in an attempt to take his own life. He was subsequently taken to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
