SAN ANTONIO – Recently, the peaceful neighborhood of Stillwater Ranch experienced a shocking event that left many residents on edge. A shooting occurred near a popular pickleball court, raising concerns about safety in an area known for its family-friendly atmosphere.

The incident took place around 9:15 p.m. on a Tuesday night in the 12600 block of Emmett Grove. According to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, gunfire erupted between two to three vehicles, resulting in multiple homes and parked cars being hit by bullets.

This frightening scene unfolded just yards away from the pickleball courts, where families had gathered for a fun evening of games. Henry Madrano IV, who was present with his daughter, shared a video on social media showing the moment players heard the gunfire and quickly sought cover.

“As soon as I turned, I saw about six gun flashes out the window of a car driving away from us,” Madrano recounted. “I immediately told my family to get in the farthest corner and get down.”

He described the situation as surreal and traumatic, especially for the children present. “Some of the girls were hysterical. The boys were hysterical,” he noted. “They were just trying to find cover and be safe.”

Homeowners in the area reported that bullets pierced their windows, and shell casings were discovered in their yards. Many expressed hope that this shooting was an isolated incident, but the fear it instilled has left them uneasy.

Alessandro Flores, a regular at the pickleball courts, shared his feelings about the event. “I know you’re focused on the game, but you have to be aware of your surroundings,” he stated. “Something like this could happen anywhere.”

He was shocked that such violence could occur so close to a community space where families typically gather. “You don’t expect something like that,” Flores said. “You think it’s going to be a chill day playing pickleball with friends or family.”

Madrano had chosen the Stillwater Ranch pickleball courts because he believed it was a safe area for his family. “Whether it’s isolated or not, it’s reckless,” he remarked. “Bullets can go anywhere; they don’t have a name on them. I probably wouldn’t go back in the evening. I might go in the morning instead.”

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the shooting. They have arrested a 17-year-old and an 18-year-old named Aniya West less than a mile from the shooting scene. West is facing charges for tampering with evidence, while details about the juvenile remain confidential.

Additionally, investigators are looking into a man who arrived at an urgent care center with gunshot wounds shortly after the shooting. Authorities noted that he did not cooperate with deputies and are working to determine whether he was a victim or involved in the gunfire.
