On a quiet Friday afternoon, a tragic event unfolded in the 100 block of Red Hawk Ridge, near Hardy Oak Boulevard. The serene atmosphere of the neighborhood was shattered by a shooting that left a devastating impact on the community.

According to the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD), the incident began around noon. Officers arrived at the scene later in the day and discovered the suspect deceased inside the home. SAPD Chief William McManus reported that the man had a firearm and ultimately turned it on himself.

Initial investigations revealed that the man had forcibly entered the home by shooting through glass doors. It was confirmed that he was not a resident of the home. Tragically, the victim was identified as his estranged wife, highlighting the complexities often involved in domestic disputes.

During this chaotic situation, two children, aged 8 and 12, were present in the home. Fortunately, they are safe and unharmed, though it remains unclear if the suspect was their father. The emotional toll on these children is immeasurable, as they grapple with the loss of their mother and the shocking events they witnessed.

Compounding the tragedy, a police officer was shot in the lower abdomen while responding to the incident. He underwent surgery and is expected to recover, a testament to the bravery and dedication of law enforcement in the face of danger.

As the community learned about the shooting, emotions ran high. Neighbor Erica Kennedy-Garcia expressed her heartbreak, sharing that she often walked by the couple’s home without knowing the struggles hidden inside. “The home is supposed to be a safe space,” she said. “The fact that this happened is a heinous crime and absolutely devastating.”

Garcia emphasized the tragedy for the children involved, stating, “They just lost their parents. Everybody is praying for them. Those kids are going to need counseling; they’re going to need a lot of support and love from the community and their family.” Her words reflect a collective sentiment of concern and compassion as the neighborhood rallies around those affected by this unimaginable loss.
