A shocking incident took place in San Antonio more than a month ago, where a father and son visiting for a basketball game were attacked. Larry Prager, 62, and his 29-year-old son traveled from New Jersey to catch the Spurs-Knicks championship game and enjoy some quality time together. However, their trip took a violent turn after the game.

“I decided to take my son to San Antonio for the Spurs and Knicks game,” Prager shared. “I try as best I can to make great memories with him.” Unfortunately, the memories they aimed to create were overshadowed by an unexpected attack shortly after they left the arena.

After the game, they took a rideshare service back to their hotel, Hotel Valencia. They were dropped off just across the street when, in a horrifying turn of events, they were attacked from behind. “I do not remember anything after that until waking up in the hospital,” Prager recalled. “We were attacked from behind, and I guess whatever hit me immediately knocked me out.”

Larry fell face-first onto the pavement, remaining unconscious as one of the attackers continued to strike him. His son, although injured, managed to stay conscious and tried to defend his father with the help of bystanders.

Both were wearing Knicks jerseys at the time, and Prager believes that was the reason for the attack. “I believe what was shouted before the attack was ‘F the Knicks,’” he stated, suggesting that their team affiliation made them targets.

Despite being in a busy area, no arrests have been made in connection to the attack. Crime Stoppers has since announced a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.

Prager, who suffered a brain bleed and a separated shoulder, is currently undergoing physical therapy. “As of maybe about a week ago, I’m able to go out and live my life,” he said, reflecting on his recovery. However, he has questioned the police’s response during the incident, noting that they did not gather witness information despite the number of people present.

Despite the traumatic experience, Prager expressed hope that the reward will inspire someone to come forward with information. “It was an unprovoked attack, and you could say it’s because we were Knicks fans. But what’s the small, meaningless reason the next time it happens?” he questioned, emphasizing the need for community safety.

Prager concluded with a hopeful message, stating, “We’re not going to let this deter us. Most of the people at the arena were great. We all got along, and there were Spurs fans on the streets who were trying to help us.” He urged sports fans to maintain perspective when it comes to rivalries, reminding everyone that they are just fans rooting for their teams.

Anyone with information about the attack is encouraged to contact San Antonio police or Crime Stoppers.
