SAN ANTONIO – A man has been arrested in connection with a shooting that occurred on the Southeast Side, according to an arrest affidavit released by local authorities.
John Massey, 32, is facing a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, as recorded in Bexar County court documents. This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding gun violence in urban areas.
The affidavit details that surveillance footage from November 1 captured a confrontation in front of a residence located in the 5400 block of Clark Avenue. In the video, Massey can be seen arguing with the victim before he reaches for a handgun that was holstered on his body.
A man was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after a shooting in the Southeast Side, according to San Antonio police.
The affidavit further explains that during the confrontation, the victim and another man attempted to disarm Massey. Shortly after, a gunshot was reported, with Massey seen emerging from behind a parked vehicle while holding the firearm.
In a separate incident, a second victim arrived at a West Side emergency room with a gunshot wound to the stomach. According to police, this individual stated that he had attended a Halloween party with Massey prior to the shooting. He also mentioned that a dispute erupted between two groups of friends at the party.
Interestingly, the second victim noted that he heard the gunshot but was initially unaware that he had been hit. After the incident, Massey reportedly drove him to a gas station where his mother picked him up and took him to the hospital.
The victim identified Massey as the shooter, confirming that they had known each other for about two years. This identification was made from a photo provided by the police.
Massey has since been booked into the Bexar County Adult Detention Center, where he was later released on bond. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges law enforcement faces in curbing gun violence and ensuring community safety.
