SAN ANTONIO – In a recent incident, San Antonio police apprehended a man suspected of burglarizing a vehicle near South Park Mall. The event unfolded on Thursday morning, around 9 a.m., not far from the Lowe’s Home Improvement store located at the busy intersection of Interstate 35 and South Zarzamora Street.

According to reports, officers responded to a call regarding a vehicle burglary. Upon arrival, they interviewed the victim to gather details about the suspect, which helped them in their investigation.

The suspect was later spotted driving southbound on I-35, but he was reportedly driving recklessly. In a dramatic turn of events, he lost control of his vehicle, which rolled over onto the access road near Somerset Road.

After the crash, the man abandoned the wrecked vehicle and attempted to escape on foot. However, officers quickly caught up with him and managed to take him into custody near the 3100 block of Owasso Street.

A KSAT crew reported from the scene on Thursday, July 23, 2026, showing a man, dressed in a red shirt and multi-colored shorts, being placed in handcuffs. (KSAT)

A spokesperson from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) noted that one of their sergeants was also present at the crash scene. Fortunately, first responders assessed the suspect and determined that he did not sustain any serious injuries before transporting him to the Bexar County Adult Detention Center.

As the investigation continues, authorities are working to find out what, if anything, was stolen from the victim’s vehicle. This incident reminds us of the importance of vehicle security and being aware of our surroundings.
