BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – A highly publicized murder case in Bexar County is back in the spotlight as Brad Simpson, charged with the murder of his wife Suzanne Clark Simpson, is set to appear in court on Thursday morning.
Brad Simpson, 55, has been under suspicion since Suzanne was reported missing on October 6, 2024, during a party at The Argyle in Alamo Heights. Despite extensive searches, Suzanne’s body has not been found, leading to significant media attention and public interest in the case. Brad was arrested on October 9, 2024.
Along with murder, Brad Simpson is also facing charges for tampering with a corpse and possessing prohibited weapons, both serious third-degree felonies. These charges suggest that the case involves not only the tragic loss of life but also issues surrounding evidence handling and legal protocols.
The case has become more complicated with allegations from Simpson’s attorney against Olmos Park Police Chief Fidel Villegas. The attorney claims that Villegas violated a gag order by allowing Olmos Park Mayor Erin Harrison to view crucial physical evidence in the case, which could potentially compromise the integrity of the investigation.
Simpson’s defense argues that this breach “destroys the chain of custody” for various evidence items, threatening the case’s validity as it moves forward.
Before this upcoming hearing, Simpson was last in court in January. Investigators noted that there had been disputes between Brad and Suzanne before her disappearance, which raises questions about the dynamics of their relationship.
Details of the Case
Brad reported Suzanne missing the evening after she was last seen. Despite thorough searches conducted by law enforcement, her remains have not been discovered. On November 7, 2024, Brad was formally charged with murder, and he was indicted a month later.
In a twist, Brad’s business partner, James Cotter, has also been implicated in the case. Cotter allegedly assisted Brad in hiding an illegally modified AK-47, which authorities say was turned into a “machine gun” without proper registration.
Significantly, surveillance footage captured Brad driving with suspicious items—three large trash bags, a heavy-duty trash can, and a bulky object wrapped in a blue tarp—on the day following Suzanne’s disappearance. These details contribute to the mounting evidence against him.
If convicted, Brad Simpson faces a life sentence in prison, highlighting the grave nature of the charges he faces. As this case develops, it raises broader questions about domestic violence, the legal system, and how evidence is handled in serious criminal cases.
