SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Spurs have resumed their training camp activities, entering the second day of their preseason preparations. With a blend of new coaching staff and fresh talent on the roster, the Spurs are emphasizing the importance of a methodical approach during this critical time.
Veteran guard Devin Vassell and second-year forward Carter Bryant took the time to speak with reporters following Wednesday’s practice. Vassell highlighted the discipline required to navigate the preseason without looking too far ahead, acknowledging the natural tendency to anticipate future successes.
“It’s human nature. You want to be back in that situation, but you can’t skip a day, you can’t skip training camp, you can’t skip preseason, you can’t skip opening night, you can’t skip the long back-to-backs,” Vassell stated. “You can’t sit here and just say, ‘Ah, you snap your fingers and you’re back in the Finals.’ It just doesn’t work like that.”
Despite the Spurs’ recent success culminating in a Finals appearance, Vassell emphasized that a return to that elite level is not guaranteed. “We can’t fast-forward anything, so we just take it day by day,” he reiterated, underscoring the importance of focusing on each moment.
Bryant echoed this sentiment, expressing his commitment to staying present and focused on the team’s goals. “I’m just trying to win basketball games. Just understanding what I can provide to this team and how I can be successful and how we can be successful as a collective,” he said.
Both players noted that the team’s chemistry appears to have carried over from last season, including with the new additions who are integrating into the Spurs’ system. This continuity is seen as a vital aspect of their strategy moving forward.
The Spurs are set to host their first preseason game on October 8 against the Atlanta Hawks at the Frost Bank Center, marking an important milestone as they prepare for the upcoming season. Fans are eager to see how the team will perform with its new lineup and strategies.
