SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio’s basketball reputation continues to grow, and Wagner High School is a major reason why.
Wagner product McCullar Jr. celebrated an NBA championship right here in his hometown. This achievement is a testament to the talent nurtured in the local schools and showcases the community’s investment in youth sports.
For Spurs fans, watching the Knicks come out on top wasn’t easy. However, for those who remember these players’ roots, it was still a proud moment for the city. The pride that local fans feel when they see homegrown talent succeed on a national stage cannot be overstated.
The Thunderbirds’ former coach, Rodney Clark, emphasized that San Antonio had plenty to celebrate because two homegrown athletes made it to basketball’s biggest stage. Clark’s dedication to coaching and his ability to inspire young athletes have played a crucial role in shaping the future of basketball in San Antonio.
Clark stated that the program intends to retire McCullar Jr.’s jersey this year, where it will join those of notable alumni such as Jordan Clarkson and Andre Roberson in the rafters. This gesture not only honors individual achievements but also reinforces the legacy of Wagner High School as a breeding ground for basketball talent.
The retirements will further cement Wagner’s place in San Antonio’s rich basketball history. The school has produced multiple NBA talents who have gone on to compete at the highest level, including in the NBA Finals. This history is a source of inspiration for current and future athletes at Wagner, encouraging them to strive for greatness.
