PITTSBURGH – In a moment that will be etched in the annals of Pittsburgh Pirates history, first baseman Ryan O’Hearn accomplished a remarkable feat on Tuesday night. He set a franchise record by driving in 10 runs during a commanding 12-4 victory over the Atlanta Braves.
O’Hearn’s explosive performance included a grand slam hit against Braves starter Hurston Waldrep in the first inning, followed by a three-run homer from Waldrep in the third. He capped off his historic night with another three-run blast off reliever Connor Thomas in the sixth inning.

With this performance, O’Hearn broke the previous franchise record of nine RBIs, which had stood since May 30, 1939, when Johnny Rizzo achieved the same feat against the St. Louis Cardinals. O’Hearn’s 10 RBIs not only set a new team record but also marked the highest total in Major League Baseball for the entire season.
In a twist of fate, O’Hearn missed the chance to join the elite four-homer club when he opted for a single in the ninth inning, showcasing his keen awareness of the game and team strategy. This season, O’Hearn has already made a significant impact, having been an All-Star last year during his time with the Baltimore Orioles and San Diego Padres.
O’Hearn’s three-home run game also placed him among the 16 players in the Pittsburgh Pirates’ 145-year history to accomplish such a feat, further solidifying his status as a key player for the team following his multi-year free-agent signing in the offseason.
