Top-ranked Jannik Sinner has announced that he will be sidelined for the remainder of the year due to a persistent knee injury. This announcement comes as a significant blow to both Sinner and his fans, as he has not competed since his victory over Alexander Zverev in the Wimbledon final back in July.

The 25-year-old Italian tennis star withdrew from the U.S. Open earlier this year because of issues related to his right knee. In a video message shared on Instagram, Sinner disclosed, “Me, together with the doctors, have decided that I need a course of treatment for my knee, which means that the 2026 season is officially over. I also need to think about my long-term career, so I will do everything possible to get back 100%.”

As a result of this decision, Sinner risks losing his No. 1 ranking while he is out of action. He had previously announced that he would miss the upcoming Shanghai Masters, but now he will also be absent from the Paris Masters and the ATP Finals in November. Additionally, Sinner will not be able to represent Italy, a three-time defending champion, in the Davis Cup Final 8.

On a more optimistic note, if Sinner is able to recover in time, he could potentially make his return at the Australian Open, which is set to commence on January 17, 2027.

Sinner’s management team confirmed in a statement, “On the advice of his medical team, Jannik Sinner will follow a course of treatment for inflammation in his knee. The decision has been made to have the treatment now to give Jannik the necessary time to recover before beginning preparations for 2027.”

Throughout his career, Sinner has achieved remarkable success, including winning five Grand Slam titles. Earlier this season, he showcased his prowess with an impressive 30-match winning streak before facing an unexpected defeat in the second round of the French Open during a heat wave in Paris.

In the context of injuries, it’s worth noting that Carlos Alcaraz, Sinner’s main rival, also faced a setback this year, missing 4 ½ months due to a right wrist injury. Meanwhile, Alexander Zverev has made a remarkable comeback, winning two of the four Grand Slam titles and is on the verge of reclaiming the No. 1 ranking.

As the tennis world watches Sinner’s recovery, his focus on long-term health and performance serves as a reminder of the physical demands faced by top athletes. The community eagerly awaits his return to the court, hoping to see him back at full strength in 2027.
