SAN ANTONIO – Former Smithson Valley and UTSA linebacker Trey Moore received the call Saturday afternoon that he is heading to the NFL after the Miami Dolphins selected him in the fourth round of the 2026 NFL Draft with the 130th overall pick.

Moore, who made a significant impact during his time at UTSA before transferring to Texas, has established himself as one of the Roadrunners’ all-time greats on the defensive side of the ball. His performance at UTSA was nothing short of remarkable, as he set the single-season records for both sacks and tackles-for-loss, showcasing his ability to disrupt opposing offenses.

In the 2023 season alone, Moore amassed impressive statistics, recording 14 sacks and 17.5 tackles for loss. These numbers not only highlight his talent but also his relentless pursuit of excellence, earning him recognition among the best defensive players in college football.

The Miami Dolphins, who have been keen on adding top talent to their roster, also feature other notable former Texas players, including quarterback Quinn Ewers, who was drafted in 2025, and safety Michael Taaffe, selected earlier in the 2026 draft. This connection adds an exciting dynamic to the Dolphins’ lineup, as these players bring familiarity and shared experiences from their college days.

In addition to Moore’s achievement, the post-draft landscape saw running back Lincoln Pare of Texas State signing as an undrafted free agent with the Indianapolis Colts, while wide receiver Jalen Walthall of Incarnate Word signed with the Houston Texans. These developments demonstrate the ongoing opportunities for talented players from various colleges to pursue their NFL dreams.
