TOLEDO, Ohio – A community festival in Toledo, Ohio, turned into a scene of chaos when multiple people were shot on Saturday evening. The incident occurred near the Old West End Festival, a beloved annual event celebrating local culture through live music and home tours. As gunfire erupted, festival-goers quickly sought safety, leading to a frantic response.
According to the Toledo Police Department, officers on-site found several individuals who had sustained gunshot wounds. Many victims were promptly transported to nearby hospitals. Details regarding the severity of their injuries are still being assessed, and police are actively searching for the suspects involved.

City council member Theresa Morris reported that at least eight individuals were victims of the shooting. In her statement, she expressed the heavy toll this tragedy has taken on the community, stating, “This tragedy is really weighing heavily on both the residents and those who visit and enjoy this festival year after year.”
Governor Mike DeWine also addressed the incident, emphasizing that summer festivals should be safe spaces for families. “I am deeply concerned about the situation in Toledo tonight,” he remarked.
Social media platforms were flooded with videos showing attendees running for cover amid the sound of gunfire, alongside emergency personnel assisting the injured. Witness Kevin Berry described his experience at the festival, where he was enjoying live music with friends when the shots rang out. “Everybody hit the deck,” he recalled, noting he saw a gun thrown to the ground nearby.
With a background in the U.S. Navy and medical training, Berry took it upon himself to help potential victims. He reported seeing at least five people with gunshot wounds in the area where the incident occurred.
The Old West End Festival, which celebrates its history and community spirit through two days of music, food, and local arts, was meant to be a joyful occasion. Berry described it as the perfect kickoff to Toledo’s summer festival season, emphasizing the stark contrast between the event’s intention and the violence that unfolded.
