NEW YORK – On a late Sunday night, an Air Canada regional jet encountered a shocking incident at New York’s LaGuardia Airport when it collided with a firetruck on the runway shortly after landing. This unexpected crash resulted in severe damage to the front of the aircraft, according to both authorities and images that emerged of the wreckage.

At the time of the incident, the aircraft was carrying 72 passengers along with four crew members. This flight, operated by Jazz Aviation on behalf of Air Canada, had taken off from Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport, which serves as Montreal’s primary airport.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey reported that the jet struck a rescue and firefighting vehicle that was responding to a different emergency around 11:45 p.m. Following the accident, LaGuardia Airport was temporarily closed until 3 a.m. to allow for a thorough investigation.

Images and videos shared on social media depicted significant damage to the aircraft’s nose, with wires and debris hanging awkwardly from the mangled cockpit. Nearby, a firetruck was seen overturned, indicating the severity of the collision.

To ensure passenger safety, stairways were quickly moved to the emergency exits of the Bombardier CRJ jet. The impact left the aircraft’s nose crumpled and tilted upward, highlighting the force of the collision.

In response to the incident, Jazz Aviation released a statement confirming the accident, while also clarifying that the list of passengers and crew was preliminary and would be verified later.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has stepped in to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, ensuring that all details are thoroughly examined.

This incident raises important questions about runway safety and the protocols in place for emergency vehicles. As investigations continue, updates will be provided regarding the status of those involved and the findings from the NTSB inquiry.
