SAN ANTONIO – More than an hour before the doors opened at PinkBerry Boutique on San Antonio’s South Side, a line had already formed outside the store for its latest Spurs-themed clothing drop.
Some customers even traveled from outside the city for a chance to shop the boutique’s custom designs. This enthusiasm highlights the deep-rooted connection between the San Antonio Spurs and their fanbase, further emphasizing the significance of local businesses in supporting team spirit.
PinkBerry Boutique, located on South Hackberry Street, has spent the past two years building a loyal following with custom San Antonio Spurs-inspired clothing and accessories. Owner Wendy Guiterrez has established a reputation for not only creating unique designs but also fostering a sense of community among Spurs fans.
“It’s still surreal for me,” Guiterrez said. “It’s been crazy. It’s been a very busy season.” The recent surge in demand for exclusive game-day apparel coincides with the Spurs’ playoff run, illustrating how local businesses can thrive during peak sporting events.
The boutique offers everything from jewelry and hats to custom airbrushed shirts and one-of-a-kind apparel designed specifically for the shop. Guiterrez emphasizes the uniqueness of her products, stating, “You will not find another airbrush shirt in town. These are all specifically made for PinkBerry.”
Each piece of clothing comes with a story. Guiterrez collaborates with local artists to create original designs, which she then personalizes, ensuring that every item is a unique representation of Spurs pride.
The shop’s growing popularity has also attracted members of the Spurs players’ families. Recently, Guiterrez created custom designs for the families of Spurs players Jordan McLaughlin and Keldon Johnson, further connecting the community with the team.
Guiterrez finds the success of her business particularly rewarding, especially as more customers express appreciation for having a trendy shopping destination on the South Side. “I’ve had several customers reach out to me, and they’re like, ‘Thank you for being on the South Side,’” Gutierrez said. “Now they have somewhere that they can come in and get cute stuff.”
As a passionate Spurs fan herself, Guiterrez shares in the hopes of her customers for continued success on the court. “Oh, absolutely,” she said. “We’re big Spurs fans.” This communal spirit not only fosters loyalty among customers but also highlights the importance of local businesses in supporting and celebrating regional sports culture.
