FORECAST HIGHLIGHTS

FORECAST

TODAY

High pressure is set to dominate the weather in South-Central Texas today, resulting in mostly sunny skies and temperatures soaring into the mid-90s to near 100 degrees Fahrenheit. The high humidity levels will make it feel even hotter, with heat indices reaching up to 108 degrees, particularly near the Coastal Plains. While the majority of the region is expected to stay dry, there is a slight chance (15-20%) of isolated afternoon showers occurring east of I-35, providing a brief respite from the heat for some.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL: HOT AND HUMID

For many students, the first day back to school will be marked by similarly sweltering conditions. Monday’s forecast mirrors that of Sunday, with afternoon highs expected to once again reach the mid to upper 90s, potentially touching the 100-degree mark. Some isolated sea-breeze showers may emerge in the afternoon, particularly in areas closer to the Coastal Plains, but the majority of the region is likely to remain dry.

For students, parents, teachers, and anyone spending time outdoors on Monday, the heat remains a pressing concern. It’s crucial to plan for a hot afternoon by ensuring students stay hydrated, not only during the school day but also for any after-school activities, including the walk home. Taking frequent breaks from the heat is advisable whenever possible.

EXTENDED OUTLOOK

Looking ahead, as the upper-level ridge shifts southeastward this week, rain chances will diminish by Tuesday, while temperatures are expected to climb toward the triple-digit mark. The persistent high humidity may push heat indices beyond 108 degrees. Although humidity levels might decrease next weekend, the overall trend indicates that the region will continue to experience unseasonably hot weather.
