KERRVILLE, Texas – In the early hours of Thursday, flooding from Goat Creek overran a road in Kerrville, Texas, leading to significant damage to a local family’s home. April Jones and her husband found themselves watching helplessly as floodwaters invaded their property, sweeping away nearly all their belongings.

April recounted that the flooding began between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m., initially mistaken for mere runoff from their yard. “We thought it was runoff from our yard, and it wasn’t — the creek was all the way up,” she explained, highlighting the suddenness of the event and the shock it brought to her family.

Despite managing to reach higher ground, the couple could do little but observe as their home, which also served as the base for their construction and remodeling business, Outland Hill Country, was inundated. This loss is particularly devastating as they have previously assisted other flood victims through their work with the Hunt Preservation Society.

April expressed the deep emotional impact of their situation, saying, “My brother lost his home.” The family had taken refuge with them during a previous disaster, and now they find themselves in dire need of assistance.

Throughout the region, the Guadalupe River was at high levels, but the immediate destruction was largely attributed to rising creeks and low-water crossings like Goat Creek. Reports indicated that parts of State Highway 39 north of Ingram were washed out, with mudslides complicating travel in affected areas.

In particular, the State Highway 39 near Cypress Springs Estate saw traffic disruptions as sections of the road had been washed away, creating hazardous conditions for motorists. The Dam Center, another area impacted by last year’s flooding, again faced delays as crews worked to assess the damage and monitor water levels.

Further complicating recovery efforts were the effects of Goat Creek flooding along Junction Highway, where debris and runoff covered several stretches of road, exacerbating the situation across the county.

In the aftermath of the flooding, cleanup efforts at the Jones home began within 24 hours, aided by volunteers familiar with the challenges posed by last year’s floods. Marissa Rios, representing Lonestar Guardians Disaster Response, a local nonprofit, emphasized the urgent need for both manpower and equipment to assist families in crisis.

Additionally, Kerr Together, another local organization, is mobilizing volunteers and collecting materials to support the ongoing recovery efforts, demonstrating the community’s resilience in the face of adversity.
