SAN ANTONIO – A police officer in San Antonio faced consequences for making a questionable decision while on duty. Officer Michael Schwab, who has been with the San Antonio Police Department for 17 years, received a 20-day suspension this past spring after being caught on his body camera taking a phone call from a jailed suspect accused of a serious crime.

The incident occurred in late October when Schwab was transporting a prisoner to jail. During this time, he accepted a phone call from an inmate facing charges of aggravated sexual assault of a child. This inmate, referred to in official documents as A.G., had also been previously charged with possessing sexual content involving children.

According to the disciplinary records, Schwab’s actions brought discredit to both himself and the police department. His decision to engage with someone accused of such serious offenses raised significant concerns about his judgment and adherence to professional conduct standards. The suspension was officially recorded as running from April 20 to May 9.

This situation highlights the importance of maintaining ethical standards in law enforcement. Officers are expected to uphold the law and act in a manner that reflects well on their department. When they fail to do so, it can lead to consequences not just for the individual officer, but for the entire community’s trust in law enforcement.
