NEW YORK – Irish rock legends U2 are back with exciting news for their fans! The band is set to release their first full-length album of new material in nine years, titled “Carnaval De Luz.” This album will feature 12 tracks, including a special collaboration with the iconic Dolly Parton.
Interscope Records has announced that the album will hit stores on November 13, 2023. Fans have already been treated to a taste of the new music with the release of the track “Silencio.” Earlier in July, they also dropped “Street of Dreams,” the first single from the album.
The Edge, the band’s guitarist, described the upcoming album as “a messy, provocative, sacred collection of songs.” Bono, the lead singer, added that listeners can expect “loud guitars, deep bass, and some ecstatic rhythms.” Sounds like U2 is ready to rock!
The title “Carnaval De Luz” translates from Spanish and Portuguese to “Carnival of Light.” It is produced by Jacknife Lee, who has been collaborating with U2 since their 2004 album “How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb.”
One of the most anticipated tracks on the album is “Torn,” a duet featuring Dolly Parton. This song is particularly poignant as it has been confirmed to be her last recorded vocal performance. Co-written by U2, Parton, and Snow Patrol’s Johnny McDaid, “Torn” is described as a tender country song that explores themes of broken family ties, resonating with many listeners.
As U2 celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, the band has been far from inactive. They have released two EPs, “Days of Ash” and “Easter Lily,” each containing six songs tied to significant religious occasions, Ash Wednesday and Easter, respectively.
The album cover features The Edge, Bono, drummer Larry Mullen Jr., and bassist Adam Clayton strolling along a beach, with Bono leading the way in a top hat and black coat. This imagery is a nod to the famous Beatles’ “Abbey Road” cover, showcasing the band’s playful homage to rock history.
