NEW YORK – The MTV Video Music Awards are making a comeback to the West Coast this September, and guess who’s hosting? It’s none other than the legendary Snoop Dogg!
This year’s VMAs will be broadcast live from Los Angeles on September 27, marking the first time since 2017 that the awards will be held outside of New York or New Jersey. Snoop Dogg, a well-known rapper and entrepreneur, will take on the role of master of ceremonies for the night.
The VMAs will air on CBS, MTV, and Paramount+, making it accessible for fans across different platforms. Snoop Dogg is no stranger to the VMAs; he has been nominated 13 times and has won three Moon Man awards. He first graced the VMAs stage back in 1994, and his performances have included iconic moments—like closing the show in 1999 alongside Dr. Dre and Eminem, and paying tribute to the Notorious B.I.G. during a special segment.
In a statement, Snoop expressed his excitement about hosting, saying, “MTV and the VMAs have been part of my story since the beginning. Some of the biggest moments of my career happened on that stage and on MTV — they gave hip-hop a place to be loud, fearless and seen by the whole world. So to come back now and host the VMAs, all these years later, that’s a full-circle moment for me.”
As for the nominees, Madonna leads the pack with 11 nominations, which include video of the year for “Confessions II — The Film,” artist of the year, and song of the year for “Bring Your Love.” Following closely is Taylor Swift with nine nominations, also vying for the artist of the year title.
Other notable nominees include Ariana Grande and Sabrina Carpenter, each with seven nods, while Bruno Mars, PinkPantheress, and Zara Larsson have five nominations. Additionally, Nirvana will be honored with the prestigious Video Vanguard award, recognizing their significant impact on music and culture.
