OLMOS PARK, Texas – A serious case has come to light in Bexar County where a man has been sentenced for burglary and sex crimes. This incident has raised concerns about safety within the community, particularly among students.
Jose Roberto Medina, 30, recently accepted a plea deal for breaking into a student’s apartment at the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) on April 30. He was charged with burglary of a habitation to commit another felony, a serious first-degree felony, highlighting the severity of his actions.
As part of the plea agreement, Medina has been sentenced to 18 years in prison, with the possibility of parole after serving nine years. This decision reflects the legal system’s response to his criminal behavior, which not only violated the law but also the sense of security for the victims involved.
During a news conference, UIW Police Chief John Catts detailed the events that transpired. Medina unlawfully entered the student’s apartment through an unlocked door and exposed himself to the occupant, fleeing the scene before authorities arrived.
The following day, Medina was reported to have followed two women while they were jogging in their neighborhood. He was observed peering into one woman’s home and engaged in inappropriate behavior. This incident, combined with the earlier burglary, painted a troubling picture of Medina’s actions.
On May 4, law enforcement was able to identify Medina as the suspect and, with assistance from the Texas Department of Public Safety, took him into custody without incident at a local establishment.
In addition to the felony charge, Medina was also convicted of two misdemeanor charges: voyeurism and indecent exposure. He received time served for these counts, but the impact of his actions continues to resonate within the community.
Local police believe there may be more victims of Medina’s inappropriate behavior and have encouraged anyone affected or with information to come forward. This call for action emphasizes the importance of community vigilance and support in addressing such serious issues.
