SAN ANTONIO – A federal court in San Antonio recently sentenced a man to 30 years in prison for the sexual exploitation of a minor, according to a news release from the U.S. Department of Justice.

In May 2023, Markus Hudson Jr., a 28-year-old from Sacramento, California, coerced a woman he met on TikTok into sexually assaulting a 6-year-old child in Uvalde, Texas. This disturbing case sheds light on the dangers that social media can pose to young people.

The Department of Justice revealed that Hudson threatened the woman by claiming he would send nude images of her to her family and friends if she did not comply with his demands. Unfortunately, the woman followed through with the request and sexually assaulted the child during a video call with Hudson, who was secretly recording the act using another phone. Following the assault, Hudson sent images of the incident to one of the woman’s former classmates after she stopped communicating with him.

In a separate incident that occurred in June 2024, Hudson targeted a 14-year-old girl on Snapchat. He threatened her by claiming he had nude images of her and warned that he would “shoot up her house unless she did what he wanted.” This intimidation tactic pressured the teen into complying with his demands, which included sexual acts involving herself and other minors.

Hudson recorded these acts and shared the images with the girl’s classmates, escalating the severity of his actions. He was eventually arrested on December 13, 2024, and faced a five-count indictment in January 2025. By April 2026, Hudson pled guilty to charges of production of child pornography and coercion and enticement of a child.

This case was part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the DOJ in May 2006 aimed at combating the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. U.S. Attorney Justin R. Simmons emphasized that many investigations begin when victims of sexual abuse come forward to report their experiences.

Simmons stated, “Social media platforms have become an incredibly dangerous playground in which child predators victimize our most vulnerable and exploit them with sickening demands, that exponentially increase the victimization.” This highlights the importance of awareness and vigilance regarding online interactions, especially for young individuals.

The case serves as a reminder of the potential dangers lurking online and the critical need for teens to understand the risks of sharing personal information and images on social media platforms. Always prioritize safety and speak out if you or someone you know is in a similar situation.
