SAN ANTONIO – Early Thursday morning, Robert Hamilton was jolted awake by the loud noise of a motorcycle revving right outside his apartment. Initially frustrated by the disturbance, his anger quickly transformed into a surge of adrenaline as he realized that the noise was being used to cover up the desperate cries for help from a man being attacked just below him.
Hamilton described the victim as being in terrible shape, with visible injuries including swelling and bruising on his face. One eye was nearly shut due to the assault. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, Hamilton made the quick decision to call 911, which prompted the attackers to flee.
“(The victim) got up. Thankfully, he was able to walk and come this way, and he asked me for some water. I was able to help him out,” Hamilton recounted, relieved that he could assist the injured man.
San Antonio police arrived on the scene shortly after the 911 call around 6:30 a.m. They learned from the victim that the attack had been ongoing since the previous night. He reported being punched, kicked, and even tied up inside an apartment at the Tuscany Park complex.
Once outside, the victim was able to escape just in time. Hamilton mentioned, “They almost had him in the car taking him to wherever they were going to take him.” Thanks to Hamilton’s intervention, the group scattered before they could abduct the man.
The victim was rushed to a hospital to treat multiple injuries, including head trauma. The police described the attackers as three women and one man, and Hamilton even managed to capture a few photos of the scene to share with news crews.
This incident is part of a troubling trend, as it marks at least the second time in one week that a stranger stepped in to help someone in danger. Earlier, police in Seguin recognized a good Samaritan who called 911 after hearing a 26-year-old victim of human trafficking screaming for help, leading to her rescue and the arrest of two suspects.
Hamilton expressed his frustration with the rising crime rates, stating, “I’m tired of it. I don’t know if there is anything we can do other than everybody step up and try and help each other.” His actions exemplify the importance of community vigilance and support in times of crisis.
