BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – A man named Marco Antonio Moreno Vasquez has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for his involvement in a shooting that resulted in a man’s death. The sentencing took place in the 187th Criminal District Court of Bexar County, as announced by the District Attorney’s Office.
This tragic incident occurred in February 2023. Authorities responded to a report of a shooting and discovered Duniel Valladares Fernandez with a gunshot wound. Sadly, Fernandez was pronounced dead at the scene.
Surveillance footage played a crucial role in the investigation, capturing the shooting and helping law enforcement identify the suspect vehicle’s license plate and the individuals involved. Just days after the shooting, a traffic stop conducted by law enforcement in Atascosa County led to the discovery of the vehicle linked to the crime. Vasquez was arrested without any issues.
Further investigations revealed four shell casings at the scene that matched the firearm used in the shooting. This firearm was later found at Vasquez’s home, cleverly hidden inside a refrigerator. Ballistics tests confirmed that the shell casings found at the scene were fired from that weapon.
The evidence presented during the trial showed that Vasquez and his co-defendant, Adis Hernandez-Rivas, confronted Fernandez over a financial disagreement, which tragically escalated into violence. Hernandez-Rivas has already accepted a plea deal and is scheduled for sentencing later this month.
