BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – A man with a long history of legal troubles has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for a murder that took place in 2024 on the far North Side of San Antonio. Franco Xavier Summers, who is 34 years old, opted for a plea deal just as his trial was about to start in Bexar County’s 226th Criminal District Court.

Initially, prosecutors offered Summers the plea deal last week, but the presiding Judge Benjamin Robertson turned it down. However, on Tuesday, Visiting Judge Jefferson Moore stepped in and accepted the agreement.

Details of the 2024 Shooting Incident

The tragic incident occurred on November 9, 2024, outside a Taco Palenque restaurant located in the 18000 block of Blanco Road. According to the San Antonio police, Summers fatally shot 43-year-old Christopher Fuentes multiple times. Fuentes was later identified by the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office, and his death was ruled a homicide.

In a shocking twist, Fuentes was also the father of Summers’ girlfriend. Authorities revealed that before the shooting, Summers and Fuentes had an argument over a bar tab. As tensions escalated, Summers allegedly became “very irate” and threatened Fuentes and his daughter, claiming he had a gun.

After the argument, Fuentes and his daughter attempted to walk away. However, Summers drove up next to them, and video footage showed a brief struggle where Fuentes reached through the driver’s window to grab Summers’ arm. Moments later, Summers shot Fuentes multiple times and fled the scene at a high speed.

Summers’ Criminal Background

Franco Xavier Summers has a criminal history that raises concerns. He was previously linked to a 2013 murder charge involving the death of 17-year-old Roger Rodriguez Jr. That case was dismissed due to a lack of evidence. Summers claimed the shooting was self-defense, but the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office dropped the charges.

In 2019, Summers faced additional legal trouble when he threatened his family with a gun, leading to a standoff with police at a North Side apartment complex. He even attempted to escape by jumping out of a window but was ultimately apprehended by law enforcement.
