SAN ANTONIO – Residents in a gated and guarded neighborhood in Stone Oak are feeling anxious and frustrated due to a series of burglaries that have resulted in millions of dollars in losses. This situation has turned what was once a peaceful community into a place of worry.
Reports indicate that there have been at least nine break-ins and attempted break-ins, with many occurring while homeowners were away. This has raised serious concerns among residents about their safety and security.
One homeowner, who wished to remain anonymous, shared that thieves have stolen valuables like jewelry, cash, and even firearms. “A lot of property damage. A lot of vandalism. Broken stuff. A lot of valuables stolen,” he expressed.
In one alarming incident, a thief managed to break into a safe using a saw. Home security footage captured a masked individual trying to enter another home by smashing a window with a rock, although the burglar fled after triggering the alarm.
With concerns rising, many residents, including the anonymous homeowner’s wife, have taken matters into their own hands. “We have locks on our bedroom door, and we know what’s going to happen if someone were to come to our bedroom,” she said, noting that they feel compelled to arm themselves for protection. Some neighbors have even hired private security to patrol the area.
The couple realized that many in their community were unaware of the ongoing crime spree and decided to take action. They began distributing wanted posters and organizing protests outside their neighborhood gates to raise awareness.
“Now that we’ve gotten involved and we’re being proactive, things are happening,” the husband emphasized, showcasing the importance of community action in times of distress.
In response to these burglaries, San Antonio Crime Stoppers has announced a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest of the suspect seen on the couple’s camera. Additionally, neighbors have pooled their resources to offer an additional $25,000 reward.
Despite these efforts, the couple expressed disappointment with both their neighborhood security company and the San Antonio police for not doing enough to address the situation. In response, the San Antonio Police Department reassured the community that property crimes detectives are actively working on the case. They emphasized that each burglary incident is taken seriously and thoroughly investigated.
Councilwoman Spears is also aware of the problem and has reportedly held several meetings to discuss the issue. More details on her plans to address the crime spree are expected to be released soon.
