COTULLA, Texas – A recent case has shocked the community of Cotulla as a technology director at Cotulla Independent School District was arrested under serious allegations. The charges stem from accusations that the director uploaded child sexual abuse material to a social media account.
According to court documents, the Laredo Child Exploitation Task Force received a tip on March 5 about an account named TreyReyes03. Law enforcement was able to trace this account back to Cotulla, where the director, identified as Yanez, allegedly used this account to share disturbing photos and videos involving child abuse.
Investigators found that the account’s IP addresses were linked to both an apartment where Yanez lived and the technology building of the Cotulla ISD. Alarmingly, the email address associated with the account matched Yanez’s school email, raising further concerns.
On April 9, a federal search warrant was executed, leading agents to seize Yanez’s cellphone. It was reported that he was logged into the X account on his device at the time. Upon examining the phone, investigators discovered a shocking total of 738 photos and 32 videos depicting child sexual abuse.
When questioned by federal agents, Yanez denied any knowledge of the content on the account. He claimed that he had stumbled upon this material while trying to access adult content online, a statement that raises many questions.
A detention hearing for Yanez is scheduled for Thursday morning in Laredo, and the community is left to grapple with the implications of these serious allegations. This case highlights the ongoing issues surrounding child exploitation and the importance of vigilance in protecting vulnerable individuals.
