BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – A serious case in Bexar County has resulted in a lengthy prison sentence for a man named Sadaqat Abbasi, who was found guilty of using a fake online dating profile to commit a crime against a woman.
On Wednesday, a jury convicted Abbasi of burglary of a habitation with the intent to commit sexual assault, as well as two counts of sexual assault. The judge sentenced him to a total of 75 years in prison: 35 years for the burglary and 20 years each for the sexual assaults.
The case began in November 2023 when the victim met Abbasi online through a deceitful dating profile he created. After talking online, Abbasi obtained personal information, including her home address, which he later used to find her.
On the night of November 19, 2023, Abbasi unlawfully entered her home. He forced his way into her bedroom and committed the assault. This incident highlighted the dangers of sharing personal information online, especially with strangers.
Several months later, a DNA match linked Abbasi to this case and also connected him to two other unsolved sexual assault cases. In March 2025, law enforcement, including the Texas Rangers, arrested Abbasi in Comal County after he faced multiple allegations of sexual assault that occurred between 2016 and 2023 in both Bexar and Travis counties.
This case serves as a reminder about the potential risks associated with online interactions. It’s essential to be cautious about sharing personal details and to prioritize safety when meeting new people, whether online or in person.
