SAN ANTONIO – A serious incident occurred in San Antonio’s West Side when a woman allegedly attempted to shoot a bouncer at a club but instead injured an innocent bystander.
The woman, identified as Ariel Marie Valdez, 21, is now facing an aggravated assault charge, which is classified as a first-degree felony according to court records from Bexar County.
The San Antonio Police Department received reports of the shooting just after 10 p.m. on June 13, at Club Sirius, located in the 200 block of Losoya Street. Upon arrival, officers found a 28-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound to her back. She was quickly transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
An eyewitness, a man checking IDs at the club, shared crucial details with the police. He explained that Valdez had been arguing with him moments before the shooting. After walking away, she returned in a white vehicle, got out, and pointed a firearm at the bouncer.
According to court documents, Valdez attempted to shoot the bouncer, but her gun malfunctioned. She then “racked the handgun to chamber a round” and fired at him, missing her target. The bullet instead went through a window and struck the innocent woman nearby.
After the incident, Valdez fled the scene in her vehicle before officers arrived. Security footage from the club supported the bouncer’s account, confirming the sequence of events.
A witness later provided a photo of Valdez to the police, stating that she had caused a disturbance at a nearby bar earlier that night and was asked to leave. The clothing and hairstyle in the photo matched what Valdez was wearing during the incident.
Valdez was arrested and booked into the Bexar County Adult Detention Center on a $200,000 bond. This incident raises significant concerns about safety in nightlife areas and the potential consequences of reckless behavior.
