SAN ANTONIO – Recently, a 40-year-old man named Jared Austin Hegwer was arrested in San Antonio after authorities received multiple tips about disturbing materials linked to his online accounts. These tips indicated that he possessed over 150 files related to child sexual abuse.

Detectives from the San Antonio police took action and arrested Hegwer at a residence on Gayle Avenue. He was booked into the Bexar County Adult Detention Center around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Hegwer is facing serious charges for having more than 50 images or videos of child pornography, a crime classified as a first-degree felony. The investigation revealed that the alleged offenses took place around January 16, 2026, but the files associated with Hegwer date back to August 2025, as reported by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

The investigation began when Homeland Security special agents received cyber tips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The initial report detailed 28 uploaded files of child sexual abuse material, but further investigations led to an additional 124 files reported over several months.

These cyber tips included an IP address linked to Hegwer, and through subpoenas, investigators were able to identify his residence. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) then obtained a search warrant for Hegwer’s KIK account, a messaging app that allows users to communicate without sharing their phone numbers.

Upon examining Hegwer’s KIK account, agents discovered not only images of Hegwer himself but also numerous files containing child sexual abuse material. HSI agents confirmed Hegwer’s identity by matching his photos from the account.

Further investigation led to another search warrant, allowing officers to seize Hegwer’s phone. This phone contained more than 2,300 photos and videos of child sexual abuse material, including both real and artificially generated content of children being abused.

Hegwer is currently being held on a bond set at $100,000. The gravity of these charges underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat child exploitation and to protect vulnerable individuals from harm.

It’s crucial to raise awareness about these issues and to support organizations working to prevent child exploitation. If you or someone you know is a victim or has information related to such activities, please reach out to local authorities or organizations dedicated to protecting children.
