The announcement of Jordan’s win was made by last year’s Best Actor winner, Adrien Brody, which triggered a joyous celebration in the Dolby Theatre. Teyana Taylor, nominated for her performance in “One Battle After Another,” was seen celebrating and expressing her excitement.

As Jordan made his way through the backstage area, he was met with loud cheers and congratulatory remarks. This Oscar marks his first win, a significant landmark in his career.

“I’ve been doing this for 25 years, and many people have watched me grow in this industry,” he shared backstage. He expressed gratitude towards those who supported him throughout his journey.

Jordan emphasized the importance of mentoring the next generation of actors. “I’m not a big talker; I prefer to lead by example,” he stated, highlighting his commitment to guiding upcoming talents.

With this achievement, Jordan becomes the sixth Black man to win the Best Actor award, joining the ranks of esteemed actors such as Will Smith, Forest Whitaker, Jamie Foxx, Denzel Washington, and Sidney Poitier.

During his acceptance speech, he acknowledged the trailblazers before him: “I stand here because of the people that came before me—Sidney Poitier, Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, Jamie Foxx, Forest Whitaker, Will Smith.” He expressed deep appreciation for the support he has received throughout his career.

Jordan’s performance in “Sinners” not only showcases his talent but also marks a successful reunion with writer-producer-director Ryan Coogler, a collaboration that began with the critically acclaimed film “Fruitvale Station” in 2013.

Jordan’s journey in acting began with notable television roles, including a pivotal part in “The Wire” and a role in “Friday Night Lights.” These early experiences laid the groundwork for his successful film career.

As a dedicated actor, producer, and director, Jordan has made significant contributions to the film industry. He was also named People magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” in 2020, further solidifying his status in Hollywood.

On Oscar night, Jordan celebrated with his family, including his mother Donna and father Michael A. Jordan. He reflected on the values instilled in him during his upbringing in Newark, New Jersey, emphasizing the importance of dreaming big, kindness, and honesty.
