ALLEN PARK, Mich. – Detroit Lions All-Pro linebacker Jack Campbell has provided an encouraging update on his health following a concerning neck injury sustained during a recent game against the Minnesota Vikings. In a statement released by the team, Campbell expressed that he has regained full movement in his lower body and is making progress with upper body movement. “I know there’s still work ahead, but I remain very optimistic,” he stated. “I’m taking things one day at a time, staying positive, and focusing on getting better.”
The injury occurred early in the fourth quarter of the Lions’ 19-15 victory over the Vikings, when Campbell collided with Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson. Following the incident, he was alert and responsive as he was transported to the hospital, where he has been recovering since.
Lions head coach Dan Campbell emphasized the importance of Jack’s positive update, noting how powerful it was for the player to share his condition ahead of the team’s scheduled media availability. “That’s good news. That’s positive news,” Coach Campbell remarked. “We’re all thankful for that.”
Describing the moments after his injury, Jack Campbell recounted being face down on the turf and not moving before being evaluated by medical personnel. He was subsequently strapped to a board and carefully lifted onto a cart, receiving a round of applause from fans as he left the field.
In his statement, Campbell expressed deep gratitude towards the athletic trainers and medical personnel who attended to him on the field. “I especially want to thank the athletic trainers and medical personnel who responded and cared for me on the field,” he said. “I know those were difficult moments, and I’m incredibly grateful for the professionalism, compassion, and care you showed me. The way you handled everything and looked after me when I needed it most is something I’ll never forget.”
Campbell, who was drafted by the Lions with the 18th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft after a standout collegiate career at Iowa, has made a significant impact in his rookie season. He was named an All-Pro last season, becoming the first NFL player in seven years to achieve over 150 tackles, at least five sacks, and three forced fumbles in a single season.
The linebacker’s recovery has garnered significant attention from fans and the media alike, and he acknowledged the overwhelming support he has received. “My family and I want to sincerely thank everyone for the overwhelming amount of love, prayers, and support we’ve received over the past few days,” he shared. “It means more to us than words can express.”
As the Lions prepare for their upcoming game against the Miami Dolphins, where they currently hold a 5-2 record, the team and its supporters remain hopeful for Jack Campbell’s swift recovery and return to the field.
