SAN ANTONIO – UTSA Athletics has recently forged a significant partnership with the San Antonio-based law firm Thomas J. Henry Law, marking a noteworthy addition to its jersey sponsorship lineup. This collaboration will see the firm’s name emblazoned on the jerseys of the Roadrunners’ volleyball and men’s and women’s basketball teams.
Athletic Director Lisa Campos expressed enthusiasm over the $250,000 sponsorship, highlighting its importance in helping UTSA Athletics bolster its revenue and maintain competitiveness within the dynamic landscape of college athletics.
“First of all, a huge appreciation to all of our sponsors,” Campos stated. “We’ve had so many community partners in San Antonio and beyond. And for Thomas J. Henry to step up for this jersey sponsorship, we’re so appreciative. And obviously, it’s going to help us continue maximizing revenues and being competitive.”
In a press release announcing the partnership, Thomas J. Henry, the owner of the law firm, conveyed his pride in sponsoring UTSA. “This is one of the finest institutions in our city, and their student-athletes represent the very best of San Antonio,” he remarked. “Our commitment goes beyond a logo on a jersey. We want to help these young men and women succeed on the court, on the field, and — just as importantly — off of it. The studies are clear: students who compete in athletics go on to become their generation’s leaders. If we can play even a small role in that journey, we will have done something that matters.”
The sponsorship deal is tailored specifically for volleyball and men’s and women’s basketball, with Thomas J. Henry Law patches to be displayed on all basketball and volleyball jerseys. The patches will feature a white logo on navy blue jerseys and a navy blue logo on orange and white jerseys, ensuring visibility and brand alignment.
Additionally, Thomas J. Henry Law will have a presence at UTSA football games and within the football stadium as part of this broader sponsorship agreement. However, the firm’s name or initials will not appear on football jerseys, maintaining a focused branding strategy.
This partnership coincides with a nationwide trend, as numerous universities are exploring new NCAA-approved jersey patch sponsorship opportunities. Campos noted that UTSA is strategically pursuing multiple partners across its athletic programs, reflecting a proactive approach to revenue generation.
“There is value to that, but you also want to have a partner that is going to fit who your vision is, what your values are, making the community proud,” Campos added, indicating ongoing discussions regarding potential jersey sponsorships for other sports, including football.
When asked about a timeline for a possible football jersey sponsor, Campos emphasized the importance of patience in finding the right partner. “The timing’s going to matter on when we find that right partner,” she said.
The announcement comes amidst UTSA’s continued efforts to enhance its athletic facilities. Campos shared that the basketball and volleyball training facility is nearing completion, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony anticipated in October. “As you all have passed the facility, you see a lot of progress being made,” she stated.
Looking ahead, Campos outlined several priorities for the department, including developments in baseball, softball, a nutrition center, and a covered football pavilion. The baseball project is expected to break ground in early 2027, signaling UTSA’s commitment to continuous improvement.
“We’re really excited to be able to do something for baseball in the short term,” Campos remarked, while also mentioning ongoing collaboration with architects on softball facilities and the nutrition center.
Support from prominent San Antonio businesses and community partners has played a crucial role in elevating UTSA Athletics’ profile. “I think people see the value of intercollegiate athletics, they see the value of UTSA athletics, and they want to be a part of our brand,” Campos concluded.
As UTSA prepares to formally open its basketball and volleyball training facility in October, the athletics department remains focused on securing additional sponsorships and upgrading facilities to enhance the overall student-athlete experience.
